Gliadin (Deamidated) Antibodies Evaluation, IgG and IgA, Serum
Use
This test is used for the assessment of deaminated gliadin IgA and IgG antibodies in patients suspected of having celiac disease. It is applicable to patients with compatible clinical symptoms, atypical symptoms, or those at increased risk due to family history or associated disorders. The test is also significant for monitoring the response to a gluten-free diet in patients diagnosed with celiac disease. It helps in identifying individuals with a high probability of having celiac disease and guides the recommendation for a small intestinal biopsy.
Special Instructions
If not ordering electronically, complete and send a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Test Request form with the specimen. Specimen should be centrifuged and serum aliquoted into a plastic vial. Use Sarstedt Aliquot Tube 5 mL (T914).
Limitations
This test alone should not be relied upon to establish a diagnosis of celiac disease. It is recommended to use it to identify patients with increased probability and to confirm with a biopsy. Individuals with IgA deficiency may require additional testing. False negatives can occur in patients adhering to a gluten-free diet before testing. Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia can affect the test validity, leading to specimen rejection.
