Gliadin (Deamidated) Antibody, IgG, Serum
Use
This test is useful for the assessment of deaminated gliadin IgG antibodies to evaluate patients suspected of having celiac disease, including those with compatible clinical symptoms, atypical symptoms, and individuals at increased risk. It can also be used for monitoring the response to a gluten-free diet in patients with celiac disease.
Special Instructions
Cascade testing is recommended for celiac disease using several available algorithms. The test should be ordered with consideration to the patient's specific situation, and it should not be ordered as a replacement for Tissue Transglutaminase Antibodies, IgA and IgG Profile.
Limitations
The test should not be solely relied upon for diagnosis of celiac disease. Negative results in patients already adhering to a gluten-free diet may occur, and further investigation may be required with endoscopy and biopsy, especially in patients with malabsorptive symptoms. Testing for IgA and IgG antibodies to unmodified gliadin proteins is not recommended due to low sensitivity and specificity.
