Glucagon Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test aids in the study of islet-cell tumors and some endocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Glucagon is a polypeptide hormone produced by the alpha cells of the pancreatic islets in response to hypoglycemia or stimulation by growth hormone. This test involves cytoplasmic staining seen in pancreatic islet glucagon alpha cells and islet cell tumors, and glucagon is also found in neuroendocrine cells of the small intestine and stomach.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green "Attention Pathology" address label (T498) and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for a full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors and may alter slide staining results. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks.
