Glycophorin A (CD235a) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Glycophorin A is expressed by erythroid precursors in the bone marrow and is also present on erythrocytes. It is used to characterize erythroid cell development and aid in the diagnosis of erythroid leukemia. This test aids in the identification of erythroid precursors in bone marrow by using immunohistochemical staining to detect the presence of Glycophorin A.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is needed, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for a full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen dependent. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Unsuitable glass slides can result in inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
