Hantavirus Antibody (IgG, IgM)
Use
This immunoassay detects IgM and IgG antibodies against the Sin Nombre virus (SNV), a New World hantavirus species found in the United States, aiding in diagnosing hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, progressing to coughing and severe shortness of breath. Testing is considered for patients with HPS symptoms or rodent exposure. Cross-reactivity with Old World hantaviruses may occur, and timing of antibody production affects test results.
Special Instructions
Centrifuge and aliquot serum into a plastic vial before shipping refrigerated. Contact customer service for test pricing details.
Limitations
Results should be interpreted with clinical findings. Negative results might occur before seroconversion or with Old World hantaviruses due to cross-reactivity. IgM may last for months, IgG for years. Autoimmune conditions might lead to cross-reactivity. The assay's performance relies on clinical validation under CLIA regulations and lacks FDA clearance.
