Hematopathology Consultation, Client Embed
Use
The Hematopathology Consultation is useful for obtaining a rapid, expert opinion for the diagnosis of hematologic and nonhematologic diseases using bone marrow biopsy specimens referred by the primary pathologist. It provides access to special studies that are not available locally, ensuring accurate diagnosis and prognostic information to guide therapy.
Special Instructions
Laboratory approval is required prior to ordering this test. Contact Mayo Clinic Laboratories for authorization. The consultation includes a full bone marrow workup and may involve additional surcharges for cases with more than 25 client-stained slides. Ancillary testing can be performed and is billed separately.
Limitations
Volume limitations can affect the prioritization of tests, as determined by the hematopathologist. Tests requested by the referring physician may not be performed if deemed unnecessary by the reviewing hematopathologist. Delays in specimen arrival may preclude certain tests due to stability issues.
