Hepatitis B Virus Surface Antibody Monitor, Post-Transplant, Serum
Use
This test is useful for monitoring serum hepatitis B virus surface antibody levels during intravenous or intramuscular hepatitis B immune globulin therapy to prevent hepatitis B virus reinfection in liver transplant recipients with known previous chronic hepatitis B. It aids in managing HBIG therapy protocols to maintain desired anti-HBs levels post-transplant to minimize the risk of HBV reinfection.
Special Instructions
Patient should not take multivitamins or dietary supplements containing biotin for 24 hours before specimen collection. If not ordering electronically, complete, print, and send Gastroenterology and Hepatology Test Request or Infectious Disease Serology Test Request.
Limitations
This test is not licensed by the FDA for screening of blood, plasma, and tissue donors. Elecsys Anti-HBs immunoassay results may not be interchangeable with those from other manufacturers. Possible false-positive results can occur due to passive transfer of anti-HBs from blood products or due to interference from high titers of antibodies. Biotin interference is also a concern. Assay performance characteristics for certain specimen types or conditions have not been established.
