Use
Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) DNA, Quantitative Real-Time PCR is used to monitor the level of viremia in a patient, often in the context of therapy. HHV-8 is associated with the development of all forms of Kaposi's sarcoma, as well as some other rare lymphoproliferative diseases, such as primary effusion lymphoma and multicentric Castleman's disease.
Special Instructions
Ensure proper collection and handling of specimens. Specimen type may vary; ensure to submit only one of the specified types (Whole Blood, Serum, or Plasma).
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is developed and validated by Quest Diagnostics according to CLIA regulations and is used for clinical purposes. Inadequate specimen volume or improper collection may lead to test rejection.
