Hexagonal Phospholipid Neutralization
Use
Detection of lupus anticoagulant (phospholipid antibody) presence via qualitative clotting assay. A qualitative assay reported as positive or negative; quantitative clotting time (0–11 seconds reference) assists in diagnosis. Useful in evaluation of antiphospholipid antibodies associated with thrombosis, fetal loss, autoimmune disease (e.g., SLE, rheumatoid arthritis) and transient infections. This test is non‑diagnostic if the patient is on heparin or direct oral anticoagulants. It complements other aPTT‑based assays and supports coagulation evaluation in relevant clinical contexts.
Special Instructions
Draw blood in light blue‑top (sodium citrate) tube, spin down, send 1 mL citrated plasma frozen in plastic vial. Separate specimens required for multiple tests. Esoterix Coagulation performs the assay. NY State approved. Clients should contact Customer Service or access Test Prices for fee details.
Limitations
Specimens other than citrated plasma, anticoagulants other than sodium citrate, grossly hemolyzed, lipemic or icteric specimens may be rejected. Test is non‑diagnostic in settings of low‑molecular‑weight heparin, unfractionated heparin, or direct oral anticoagulant use. Plasma heparin > 1.0 IU/ml may give false positives. Not indicated for inpatient evaluation of acute thrombosis.
