Horse Dander, IgE with Reflex to Horse Dander Component, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is used to evaluate patients with suspected horse dander allergy. It measures the IgE antibody levels to horse dander and specific horse allergens, helping to assess the potential strength and type of allergic response to horse dander. This test is not useful for patients who have been treated with immunotherapy to determine residual sensitivity or when medical management does not depend on allergen specificity identification.
Special Instructions
If ordering manually, complete and send the Allergen Test Request form with the specimen. Detailed instructions for specimen collection, including centrifugation and aliquoting, must be followed to ensure accurate results.
Limitations
Negative results do not completely exclude the possibility of allergic responses upon exposure to horse dander. Positive results indicate sensitization but are not diagnostic of allergy as they do not confirm clinical manifestations. False positives may occur in patients with elevated serum IgE due to nonspecific binding. Clinical correlation with patient history is recommended.
