Human Herpes Virus, Type 8 (HHV-8) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for identifying human herpes virus type 8 infection, which can lead to lymphoproliferative diseases or other neoplasms, notably in patients with HIV. Such neoplasms include the plasma cell variant of Castleman disease, Kaposi sarcoma, and primary effusion lymphoma. The presence of HHV-8 can be a critical determinant in diagnosing these conditions.
Special Instructions
This test is for the technical component only and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as they will be canceled if ordered together. The test should be ordered electronically for access to digital images. Attach required labels to the shipping container.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be conducted by a qualified pathologist in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. The age of cut paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity, which is antigen-dependent. Glass slides may be affected by environmental conditions, impacting slide staining results.
