Hydromorphone Confirmation, Random, Urine
Use
The test is useful for the detection and quantification of hydromorphone in urine. Hydromorphone is a metabolite of hydrocodone, which is used medically for pain relief. The test indicates exposure to hydromorphone or hydrocodone within 2 to 3 days prior to specimen collection. It is applicable in evaluating possible drug exposure in patients and ensuring appropriate therapeutic monitoring.
Special Instructions
For situations where chain of custody is required, a Chain of Custody Kit (T282) is available. For chain-of-custody testing, order OPATX / Opiates Confirmation, Chain of Custody, Random, Urine. No specimen substitutions allowed. STAT requests are not accepted for this test.
Limitations
This test does not detect other drugs in the opioid class, such as fentanyl, meperidine, methadone, and opiate antagonists such as naloxone. The test only reports the total urine concentration of hydromorphone, which includes both conjugated and unconjugated forms of the drug. Potential diagnostic confusion may arise if improper specimen collection and handling occurs, or if inappropriate tests are selected.
