IgD Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for aiding in the classification of lymphomas and multiple myeloma. It detects IgD, which is one of the immunoglobulin heavy chain types. Immunoreactivity is a specific marker for B lymphocytes and plasma cells and is normally expressed on mantle zone lymphocytes. Staining for immunoglobulin heavy chains can aid in the diagnosis and classification of small B cell malignant lymphomas and multiple myeloma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. If interpretation is needed, a PATHC/Pathology Consultation must be ordered. It should not be ordered with PATHC, as the stains will be canceled if ordered together. Order electronically to access digital imaging.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. The age of a cut paraffin section can impact immunoreactivity and stability thresholds vary among published literature, depending on the antigen. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks of testing.
