IgG4 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Identification of IgG4-positive plasma cells in the tissue of patients with systemic autoimmune or allergic manifestations. Immunoglobulin G4 is the least abundant of IgG subclasses and elevated serum IgG4 levels may be associated with localized or systemic allergic and autoimmune manifestations. Examples include inflammatory pseudotumor in the liver, breast, and lung, sclerosing pancreatitis, and pemphigus vulgaris, where increased numbers of IgG4-positive plasma cells are present in the tissue.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely among published literature, being antigen dependent. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors and may alter slide staining, leading to inconsistent results due to poor slide surface chemistry. Best practices are to minimize the time slides are stored after being unpackaged, limit exposure to humidity and heat, and minimize exposure to plastics.
