Inhibin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Inhibin Immunostain is useful for identifying sex cord-stromal tumors. Inhibin is a hormone produced by ovarian granulosa and theca cells and testicular Sertoli and Leydig cells. The test involves staining to identify the presence of inhibin, which helps in diagnosing these types of tumors, as staining provides a visual method to confirm the development of tumors related to sex cord-stromal tissues.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Any immunohistochemistry (IHC)/in situ hybridization (ISH) stain performed as a part of the PATHC will be performed at the reviewing pathologist's discretion at an additional charge.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity and stability of the antigen. Unsuitable glass slides can lead to inconsistent staining due to poor surface chemistry. It is advised to minimize the storage time of pre-cut slides, limit exposure to humidity and heat, and avoid contact with plastics to preserve slide quality.
