Isocyanate HDI, IgE, Serum
Use
The test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to isocyanate HDI, identifying the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms, and confirming sensitization prior to beginning immunotherapy. It is not useful for patients previously treated with immunotherapy or when medical management does not depend on allergen specificity identification.
Special Instructions
For multiple allergens requested, the specimen volume must be calculated accordingly (0.5 mL per 5 allergens). If not ordering electronically, complete and send an Allergen Test Request (T236) with the specimen.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not recommended in patients previously treated with immunotherapy where residual clinical sensitivity needs to be assessed, as well as in cases where identification of allergen specificity is not critical for patient management. The presence of clinically insignificant sensitivity can result in measurable IgE levels, and false positives can occur with very high serum IgE due to nonspecific binding.
