Isoniazid (INH)
Use
Isoniazid is an antibiotic used for the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. This test measures the level of isoniazid in the serum to ensure therapeutic levels are achieved while avoiding toxicity. Monitoring of serum levels can be particularly important in patients who have hepatic dysfunction, are receiving other potentially hepatotoxic drugs, or are in a relapse phase of treatment.
Special Instructions
The test is available for order from New York State clients, indicating compliance with NY regulatory requirements for clinical testing. Ensure the specimen is handled as per the collection instructions for accurate results.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of the test were determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, indicating it should be used following specific clinical guidelines. Serum gel tubes are not acceptable for collection as they may affect the test results. Specimens showing hemolysis, lipemia, or icterus are not acceptable for testing.
