Keratin 19 (KRT19) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test aids in the identification of cells expressing low molecular weight cytokeratin (KRT19), particularly in settings of carcinomas with ductal or glandular differentiation. Cytokeratin19 (KRT19) is a low molecular weight cytoskeletal protein expressed in simple epithelium, transitional epithelium, and myoepithelium. Its detection is useful in providing diagnostic context in relevant tissue types.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation; if ordered together, the technical component stains will be canceled. Label the transport container with the green 'Attention Pathology' address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label.
Limitations
The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with stability thresholds being antigen-dependent. Best practice is for sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Environmental factors affecting glass slide charges can impact staining results. Inconsistent staining may occur due to unsuitable glass slide surfaces. Best practices include minimizing time slides are stored unpublished, limiting exposure to humidity and heat, and minimizing contact with plastics.
