Keratin 7 (KRT7) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Keratin 7 (KRT7) stains the cytoplasm of epithelial cells in a granular or filamentous pattern or may appear membrane associated (cytoskeletal). It is found in various normal tissues and can be used together with KRT20 as an aid in determining the primary site in carcinomas of unknown origin. The test assists in identifying the origin of carcinoma cells, helping to direct appropriate treatment strategies.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary among published literature and are antigen dependent. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors and may alter slide staining, potentially resulting in inconsistent results.
