Ki-67(MIB-1), Pulmonary, Quantitative Immunohistochemistry, Manual
Use
Determining proliferation of tumor cells in paraffin-embedded tissue blocks from patients diagnosed with carcinoid or atypical carcinoid of the lung, including metastases. This manual method of analysis estimates DNA synthesis by measuring the amount of tumor cells expressing the Ki-67 antigen, an indicator of cell proliferation. Ki-67 analysis can provide useful prognostic information in various tumor types.
Special Instructions
Only orderable as a reflex. Attach the green 'Attention Pathology' address label to the transport container before submission. Includes accompanying pathology report stating the final diagnosis. If not available, a preliminary diagnosis is acceptable. The paraffin block will be returned with the final report.
Limitations
The test is not orderable on its own and must be requested as a reflex. The paraffin block analyzed must be representative of the patient's tumor. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory data. The test is developed according to CLIA requirements but is not cleared or approved by the FDA.
