KIT Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test aids in the identification of gastrointestinal stromal tumors by detecting the expression of the KIT (CD117) membrane protein, a type III tyrosine kinase growth factor receptor. KIT is expressed in mast cells, melanocytes, interstitial cells of Cajal, various epithelia, and is useful in diagnosing GISTs, germ cell tumors, mast cell disorders, and acute myeloid leukemias.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component-only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green 'Attention Pathology' address label (T498) and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
The test does not provide pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section and charge of glass slides can affect immunoreactivity and staining quality. Factors such as high humidity, heat, and the presence of unsuitable glass slide materials (like non-charged or ProbeOn slides) can lead to inconsistent staining results.
