Lactotransferrin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is used for identifying the presence of lactotransferrin in amyloid deposits and serves as an adjunct to amyloid-subtyping analysis by mass spectrometry. Lactotransferrin is known to be expressed in various tissues and plays a role in iron metabolism and defense against bacteria. It is also associated with amyloidosis in certain tissues.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Ensure to attach the appropriate labels when shipping specimens.
Limitations
The test does not include a pathologist's interpretation. Age of paraffin sections and environmental factors affecting glass slides can impact immunoreactivity and staining results. Best practices include minimizing storage time of slides after unpacking, limiting exposure to humidity and heat, and ensuring proper glass slide chemistry.
