Lambda Light Chain Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test serves as a marker of B-cell and plasma cell clonality and B-cell lineage. Kappa or lambda immunoglobulin light chains pair with immunoglobulin heavy chains to form complete immunoglobulin molecules. These proteins serve as receptors for antigens in B lymphocytes and are the secretory products of plasma cells, forming the humoral arm of the immune system. Because individual B cells or plasma cells synthesize immunoglobulin containing either kappa or lambda light chains, but not both, immunoperoxidase stains for light chains can be applied to lymphocyte and plasma cell populations as a marker of clonality and B-cell lineage.
Special Instructions
The test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. If ordered along with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, the technical component stains will be canceled. Use the green 'Attention Pathology' and pink Immunostain Technical Only labels for shipping the specimen.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Glass slide charge affected by environmental factors can lead to inconsistent staining. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Best practices for storage include minimizing time slides are stored after being unpackaged and limiting exposure to high humidity and heat.
