Langerin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The Langerin Immunostain test is useful for the visualization of normal and neoplastic Langerhans cells. Langerhans cells are specialized antigen-presenting cells located in the skin, and Langerin is expressed in these cells both under normal conditions and in pathological states. This test aids in the identification of these cells through immunohistochemical staining, providing crucial insights in clinical diagnostics relating to skin disorders and other conditions where Langerhans cells are implicated.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide pathologist interpretation. If interpretation is required, practitioners should consider ordering a full Pathology Consultation (PATHC), since technical component stains ordered with PATHC will be canceled. Proper labeling of specimens using the green 'Attention Pathology' and pink 'Immunostain Technical Only' labels is necessary for proper processing.
Limitations
The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, potentially altering stain effectiveness. It is important to minimize the time slides are stored once unpackaged and to limit their exposure to high humidity, heat, and certain plastics that may interfere. Additionally, the age of a paraffin section can influence immunoreactivity, with sections cut within six weeks being preferable for maintaining optimal staining quality.
