Leukemia and Lymphoma Phenotyping, Technical Only, Varies
Use
This test is useful for evaluating lymphocytoses of undetermined etiology, identifying B- and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders involving blood and bone marrow, distinguishing acute lymphoblastic leukemia from acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and immunologic subtyping of acute leukemias. It aids in distinguishing reactive lymphocytes and lymphoid hyperplasia from malignant lymphoma, distinguishing between malignant lymphoma and acute leukemia, and phenotypic subclassification of B- and T-cell chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mantle cell lymphoma, and hairy cell leukemia. It also helps in recognizing AML with minimal morphologic or cytochemical evidence of differentiation and monoclonal plasma cells.
Special Instructions
This test is available only to clients through MayoAccess or MayoLink. The client is responsible for the interpretation and billing of the professional component, while Mayo Clinic will bill the technical component. Specimen must arrive within 4 days of collection. Additional forms such as the Hematopathology Patient Information Sheet and Hematopathology/Cytogenetics Test Request may be required if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
This test is not intended for detection of minimal residual disease below 5% blasts. It is not appropriate for diagnosis of sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, interstitial lung diseases, or differentiating between pulmonary tuberculosis and sarcoidosis. It is not intended for product of conception specimens.
