This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis and identifying targeted therapies for patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Limitations
This test cannot differentiate between somatic and germline alterations, and DNA variants of uncertain significance may be identified. It does not detect multi-exon deletions or duplications and large-scale genomic copy number variants. The presence of rare polymorphisms can lead to false results. Reliable results depend on proper specimen collection and processing, preferably from FFPE tissues; improper treatment like decalcification may cause failure. A negative result cannot rule out the presence of low-frequency variants below the assay's detection limits.
