MayoComplete Kidney Cancer Panel, Next-Generation Sequencing, Tumor
Use
This test is useful for identifying specific mutations to assist in tumor diagnosis/classification, assisting in the clinical management of patients with renal cell carcinoma, and assessing microsatellite instability for immunotherapy decisions. This panel evaluates formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor or cytology slides from patients with kidney carcinoma for gene mutations to identify candidates for targeted therapy. It also evaluates mismatch repair genes and microsatellite instability (MSI) status, which is clinically actionable for determining the efficacy of immunotherapy in solid tumors.
Special Instructions
This test requires a pathology report including patient name, block number on all blocks, slides, and paperwork, tissue collection date, and source of tissue. A slide review is always performed at an additional charge. Unused unstained slides and cytology slides will not be returned.
Limitations
This test does not differentiate between somatic and germline alterations, and additional testing may be necessary for hereditary risk clarification. It may not detect multi-exon deletions, larger-scale genomic copy number variants, copy neutral loss of heterozygosity, or epigenetic modifications. DNA variants of uncertain significance may be identified, and negative results do not exclude variants below detection limits. Proper interpretation relies on adequate specimen handling and processing.
