MiTF Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the identification of melanomas. It involves the detection of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, which is produced by melanocytes and osteoclasts, and can assist in the classification of melanoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; it does not include pathologist interpretation. If interpretation is required, PATHC / Pathology Consultation must be ordered separately. Ordering this test with PATHC will result in the technical component stains being canceled.
Limitations
Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability of antigens varies widely among different publications and is antigen dependent, making it best practice for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Environmental factors can affect the charge of glass slides, potentially impacting staining results. Unsuitable glass slides may result in inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
