MOC-31 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
MOC31 is an immunohistochemical test that acts as a marker of epithelial cells. It reacts with an antigen present on most normal and malignant epithelia, making it useful for indicating tumors of epithelial origin such as adenocarcinomas, papillary serous carcinoma, breast, lung, prostate, and cholangiocarcinoma. This test is often included in a panel to rule out mesothelioma and support carcinoma diagnosis.
Special Instructions
This test involves only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. If pathologist interpretation is required, a separate Pathology Consultation (PATHC) needs to be ordered. Appropriate shipping labels must be used when sending specimens.
Limitations
Age of paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and environmental factors can impact slide staining, leading to inconsistent results. It is crucial to minimize the time slides are stored after unpackaging and limit their exposure to high humidity and heat.
