Use
Monitoring patients with monoclonal gammopathies by evaluating urine total protein, protein electrophoresis fractions, and identifying monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains which may indicate disorders such as multiple myeloma, primary systemic amyloidosis, light chain deposition disease, or monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance.
Special Instructions
If not ordering electronically, complete and send Renal Diagnostics Test Request (T830) with specimen. 24‑hour collection volume required. Multiple PDFs available including collection and transportation instructions. Preservative or temperature control must be applied within 4 hours of collection; refrigerated transport preferred. NY state–available test.
Limitations
This test was developed and performance characteristics determined by Mayo Clinic in a manner consistent with CLIA requirements; it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Hemolysis may cause discrete bands on protein electrophoresis that are negative on M‑protein isotyping.
