MPL Exon 10 Sequencing, Reflex, Varies
Use
This test aids in the distinction between a reactive cytosis and a myeloproliferative neoplasm in cases where JAK2 V617F testing results are negative. It evaluates for variants in MPL as part of an algorithmic process for MPNCM / Myeloproliferative Neoplasm, CALR with Reflex to MPL. Variants in MPL exon 10 are relevant in the diagnosis of myeloproliferative neoplasms, particularly in cases negative for other common mutations such as JAK2 V617F.
Special Instructions
The test is only orderable as a reflex. For more details, refer to MPNCM / Myeloproliferative Neoplasm, CALR with Reflex to MPL.
Limitations
A positive result is not specific for a particular subtype of myeloproliferative neoplasm and requires clinical correlation. A negative result does not exclude the presence of a myeloproliferative neoplasm or other neoplastic processes. The sensitivity of the assay is approximately 20%, meaning samples with lower percentages of altered DNA may appear negative.
