Mushroom IgG
Use
The Mushroom IgG test is utilized in special clinical situations to assess immunologic sensitization by certain mushroom allergens. While reference values for food-specific IgG tests are not established, their clinical utility can be in selecting foods for elimination based on patient complaints related to food intake. This test helps in identifying possible food allergens but is not evidence of a food allergy, as it only indicates the presence of food-specific IgG.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered by physicians aware of its limitations, especially regarding the interpretation of IgG presence as non-determinative of food allergies. Specimen should be refrigerated upon collection and sent in a plastic vial to ensure sample stability.
Limitations
The Mushroom IgG test does not establish food-specific IgG reference values, nor is it cleared or approved by the FDA. Its presence cannot be interpreted as evidence of allergy but merely as immunologic sensitization. Therefore, these results should be correlated with clinical findings and used as part of a broader diagnostic evaluation.
