MVista Coccidioides Quantitative Antigen EIA
Use
The MVista Coccidioides Quantitative Antigen EIA is used to identify the presence of Coccidioides antigen in urine, which assists in diagnosing coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever). This method quantifies the antigen concentrations, allowing healthcare providers to evaluate the presence and progression of the infection. The results are reported in ng/mL and are primarily used to provide diagnostic clarity and assist in patient management for those exhibiting symptoms consistent with coccidioidal infection.
Special Instructions
It is important to ensure that the urine sample is collected and handled properly to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Refrigeration of the specimen is preferred for stability, but ambient conditions are acceptable for shorter periods. The test is not approved for New York State clients and is primarily performed from Monday through Friday.
Limitations
Cross-reactions may occur with antigens from histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and paracoccidioidomycosis, potentially causing false-positive results. The assay is susceptible to interference by substances like sputolysin, sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide, which can degrade the antigen. Viscous samples or those contaminated with transport media or fixatives are also unsuitable. Additionally, due to assay design, results above 8.2 ng/mL are considered 'Positive, Above the Limit of Quantification.'
