MVista Histoplasma Ag Quantitative, Spinal Fluid
Use
The MVista Histoplasma Ag Quantitative test is used for the quantitative detection of Histoplasma antigen in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This test is particularly significant for diagnosing histoplasmosis infections, especially in immunocompromised patients who may exhibit severe and disseminated forms of the disease. Accurate quantification can aid in patient management by monitoring the disease progression and response to treatment. Additionally, early detection of histoplasma antigen in CSF can facilitate timely and appropriate therapeutic interventions, reducing the risk of complications associated with the disease.
Special Instructions
The specimen required for this test is spinal fluid collected in a sterile container. Ensure the sample volume is at least 0.8 mL for testing adequacy. The specimen should be refrigerated during shipping to maintain stability. It is important to note that the test is available for order by clients in New York State.
Limitations
Cross-reactions may occur with other fungal infections such as blastomycosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, penicilliosis, and less frequently with coccidioidomycosis. Rarely, cross-reactivity may also occur with aspergillosis and possibly sporotrichosis. Additionally, treatments involving sputolysin, sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide can degrade the analyte, potentially affecting the assay's accuracy. These factors should be considered when interpreting test results, as false-positive or false-negative results might occur due to cross-reactivity or degradation of the analyte.
