Mycoplasma genitalium, Transcription-Mediated Amplification, Urine or Urogenital Swab
Use
Detecting Mycoplasma genitalium in cases of suspected infection. Mycoplasma genitalium is an under-recognized STI that causes acute and chronic non-gonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease. It is frequently misdiagnosed as other STIs, leading to improper treatment.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is required. Care must be taken to avoid cross-contamination during specimen handling. This test is not intended for medico-legal applications.
Limitations
This test does not detect other Mycoplasma or Ureaplasma species. Negative results do not exclude infection. Improper collection, concurrent antibiotic therapy, or low organism levels may lead to false negatives. This assay is not for assessing therapeutic success since nucleic acids may persist post-treatment.
