Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), Specified FISH, Varies
Use
This test is useful for detecting recurrent common chromosome abnormalities associated with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) or other myeloid malignancies using client-specified probe sets. It serves as an adjunct to conventional chromosome studies in patients with MDS, helps evaluate specimens where chromosome studies were unsuccessful, and assists in identifying and tracking known chromosome abnormalities in patients with MDS, as well as monitoring their response to therapy.
Special Instructions
The test is performed using client-specified FISH probes and is not a panel test. Specific probes must be listed in the probe request field. Reflex probes can be performed when appropriate if specified in the order request field. Order processing may be delayed or canceled if targeted FISH probes are not specified.
Limitations
This test is not a substitute for conventional chromosome studies, as it may not detect chromosome abnormalities associated with other hematological disorders that could go undetected in a targeted MDS FISH test. It is not FDA approved and is best used as an adjunct to existing clinical and pathologic information. Cases with no FISH signals post-hybridization indicate a lack of FISH results, and if no cells are available for analysis, no charges will be incurred.
