Myogenin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Myogenin is a marker of skeletal muscle differentiation. It is a member of a family of myogenic regulatory genes crucial for muscle development, including MyoD, myf5, and MRF4. These genes encode transcription factors found in the majority of rhabdomyosarcomas and Wilms tumors, but absent in Ewing sarcoma and mature skeletal muscle. This test is used to identify skeletal muscle differentiation in tissues through immunohistochemistry.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as the technical component stains will be canceled. Stains must be ordered separately for digital image access, and orders must be placed electronically to access digital images. Proper labeling with 'Attention Pathology' and 'Immunostain Technical Only' is necessary for shipping.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation. Positive and negative controls are verified for appropriate immunoreactivity. Interpretation should be contextualized with the patient's clinical history. The charge of slides and age of paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity, requiring specific conditions to maintain stability. Paraffin sections should be cut within 6 weeks for optimal results.
