Napsin A Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Napsin A is an aspartic proteinase involved in the proteolytic processing of surfactant precursors in the normal alveolar epithelium. In normal tissues, napsin A is expressed in the cytoplasm of alveolar macrophages, type II pneumocytes, pancreatic ducts and acini, and in renal tubules. Napsin A has clinical utility for the identification of primary lung adenocarcinomas and is also positive in a subset of thyroid and renal cell carcinomas (especially papillary type).

This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.

The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary among published literature and are antigen-dependent. Proper storage of positively charged slides is critical to avoid alterations in slide staining.
