Opiate Confirmation, Meconium
Use
The test is aimed at detecting maternal prenatal opiate and opioid use up to 5 months before birth. Opiates are alkaloids derived from the opium poppy and show analgesic effects. They can cross the placenta and distribute into fetal tissues. This test particularly looks for the presence of opiates in meconium, the first fecal material passed by the neonate, indicating in utero exposure to drugs during the last months of pregnancy.
