Organism Referred for Identification, Aerobic Bacteria
Use
This test is used for the identification of pure isolates of aerobic bacteria, which is critical for the diagnosis and treatment of infections. Accurate species identification can provide valuable information regarding the organism's significance in disease processes, potential sources of infection, and guides for effective treatment.
Special Instructions
Consult with your state health department or CDC for confirmation of select agents such as Bacillus anthracis. Additional forms may be required if not ordering electronically. Each isolate must be submitted under a separate order with complete isolate description and specimen source.
Limitations
Tests will not be performed on suspected select agents without proper clearance. Mixed cultures are not acceptable, and pure cultures are required for accurate identification. Organisms have to be actively growing to ensure viability and correct identification upon arrival at the laboratory.
