p40 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the diagnosis and classification of carcinomas and lymphomas. The p40 antibody recognizes the deltaNp63 isoform of p63, which may exert an oncogenic effect and is selectively expressed in squamous cell carcinoma. It aids in distinguishing squamous cell carcinoma from other types of carcinomas, providing critical diagnostic information for patient management.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered in conjunction with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be canceled in such cases. Specific shipping instructions require attaching the "Attention Pathology" label and the Immunostain Technical Only label to the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation; instead, it focuses solely on the technical aspect of the stain. Interpretation should be performed by a qualified pathologist in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. The performance characteristics have been verified by Mayo Clinic consistent with CLIA requirements. Stability of paraffin sections varies and is antigen dependent; the best practice is to cut sections within 6 weeks to ensure immunoreactivity. Environmental factors can affect the glass slide's charge and may alter staining results.
