p62 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for aiding in the diagnosis of argyrophilic grain disease (AGD), a common late-onset dementia. AGD is characterized by the presence of argyrophilic grains and coiled bodies and is frequently found in patients diagnosed with amnestic-type mild cognitive impairment. The immunohistochemical detection of ubiquitin-binding protein p62 is sensitive and reproducible, helping to identify grain pathology in AGD effectively.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component-only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as they will be canceled if ordered together. Shipping labels and instructions are provided with the kit to ensure proper handling and identification.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, a PATHC / Pathology Consultation should be ordered for a complete diagnostic evaluation or second opinion. Age of the paraffin section can impact immunoreactivity as stability varies widely and is antigen dependent. Specimen integrity can be affected by environmental factors, especially the charge of glass slides, which may alter staining quality if exposed to improper conditions.
