p63 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Aiding in identifying squamous, urothelial, or myoepithelial differentiation in tumors. The p63 protein is a member of the p53 family of tumor-suppressor proteins and is predominantly localized in the basal layer of stratified squamous and transitional epithelia. p63 staining helps differentiate between various tumor types, being negative in malignant tumors of the prostate.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. If pathologist interpretation is required, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC as they will be canceled. Order using electronic form to access digital images.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and the stability thresholds can vary widely among published literature. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, potentially altering slide staining.
