Platelet Surface Glycoprotein, Flow Cytometry, Blood
Use
This test is used for the identification of platelet surface glycoprotein deficiencies which are diagnostic for various hereditary or acquired platelet disorders. It helps in diagnosing conditions such as Glanzmann thrombasthenia and Bernard-Soulier syndrome by measuring the expression levels of specific glycoproteins on the platelet surface using flow cytometry.
Special Instructions
Specimen must be shipped ambient and arrive within 4 days of collection. The use of an Ambient Shipping Box-Critical Specimens Only (T668) is required for shipping. The 'Platelet Esoteric Testing Patient Information' PDF is required, which aids in interpretation but testing may proceed without it.
Limitations
Decreased platelet surface receptor expression could result from improper specimen handling, shipping, or storage, affecting the flow cytometry results. Artifacts may occur due to suboptimal sample conditions or benign polymorphisms, and correlation with clinical findings and repeat testing may be necessary.
