Podoplanin (D2-D40) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test aids in the identification of reactive follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin is a mucin-type transmembrane glycoprotein that is expressed in reactive follicular dendritic cells (FDC) and has been reported in FDC sarcomas. It is expressed in various tissues, including lymphatic endothelium, bile duct cells, mesothelial cells, ependyma, myoepithelial cells, and granulosa cells. The D2-40 antibody to podoplanin has been used in the diagnosis of mesothelioma and seminoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and no pathologist interpretation is provided. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation; if ordered together, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, as stability thresholds vary widely and are antigen dependent. Best practice suggests paraffin sections be cut within 6 weeks. The charge of glass slides can be influenced by environmental factors, possibly affecting slide staining.
