POU2F3 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
POU2F3 (POU Class 2 Homeobox 3) may be useful in the diagnosis of small cell lung carcinomas that are negative for conventional neuroendocrine markers and TTF-1 (thyroid transcription factor 1). It may also be expressed in squamous cell carcinomas of the thymus, which helps in differentiating these cancer types. Recognizing the presence of POU2F3 in tumors can guide in refining diagnosis and potentially inform therapeutic strategies for better management of the conditions.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemistry (IHC) stain and does not include a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with a pathology consultation (PATHC), as the technical component will be canceled if done so. Shipping instructions include attaching the green "Attention Pathology" label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label to the transport container.
Limitations
The test is influenced by the age of cut paraffin sections, as immunoreactivity can decline over time; paraffin sections should ideally be cut within 6 weeks. The quality of glass slides can be altered by environmental factors affecting slide staining consistency. Proper storage practices should be followed, such as minimizing storage time after unpackaging, avoiding high humidity and heat exposure, and minimizing exposure to plastics.
