Rabies Antibody Endpoint
Use
RFFIT stands for Rapid Fluorescent Foci Inhibition Test. It is a serum neutralization (inhibition) test, which measures the ability of rabies-specific antibodies to neutralize the rabies virus and prevent it from infecting cells. The antibodies are called rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVNA). Quantitative results assist in determining rabies vaccination effectiveness, with a result of 0.5 IU/mL or higher considered an acceptable response according to World Health Organization guidelines.
Special Instructions
Collection date is required for specimen submission. The test is typically performed on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Limitations
The test requires standard laboratory conditions to ensure accurate results. Specimen degradation or contamination can affect titers, and improper storage may lead to false negatives or unusable samples. Failing to follow the specified collection and handling instructions may result in specimen rejection.
