Respiratory Panel, PCR, Varies
Use
This test is a multiplex polymerase chain reaction test designed for the rapid detection of respiratory infections caused by a variety of pathogens, including viruses such as adenovirus, various coronavirus serotypes (HKU1, NL63, 229E, OC43), SARS-CoV-2, human metapneumovirus, human rhinovirus/enterovirus, influenza A (subtypes H1, H1-2009, H3, and undifferentiated subtypes including H5N1), influenza B, parainfluenza virus serotypes 1-4, and respiratory syncytial virus, as well as bacteria like Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It qualitatively detects DNA or RNA of 22 pathogens to aid in diagnosing infections.
Special Instructions
The test is not recommended as a test of cure. If Mycoplasma pneumoniae is detected, additional macrolide resistance testing may be performed at an extra charge.
Limitations
While this PCR-based test detects a comprehensive range of pathogens, it is qualitative and does not determine antibiotic susceptibility apart from Mycoplasma pneumoniae. False positives or negatives can occur, especially in specimens with low pathogen load.
