Respiratory Profile, Region 17, Pacific Northwest (Northwestern CA, Western OR, WA), Serum
Use
This test is useful for assessing sensitization to various inhalant allergens commonly found in the Pacific Northwest, including the region of Northwestern California, Western Oregon, and Washington. It helps define the specific allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms and can identify allergens responsible for allergic reactions or anaphylactic episodes. It is also used to confirm sensitization before beginning immunotherapy or to investigate allergic reactions specific to insect venom, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
For a listing of allergens available for testing, refer to the related PDF document. If not ordering electronically, complete, print, and send an Allergen Test Request (T236) with the specimen. Submission should be in a plastic vial after centrifuging and aliquoting the serum.
Limitations
The test is not useful for patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists, or in cases where medical management does not depend on identification of allergen specificity. Elevated concentrations of total IgE must be interpreted in the clinical context, and false positives may occur with very high serum IgE levels due to non-specific binding.
