Respiratory Profile, Region 6, South Central (AL, AR, LA, MS), Serum
Use
This test is useful for assessing sensitization to various inhalant allergens commonly found in the South-Central region, including Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It helps define the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms and is also used for identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes. It confirms sensitization prior to beginning immunotherapy and investigates the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
This test is not useful for patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists or in whom the medical management does not depend on identification of allergen specificity. Some individuals with clinically insignificant sensitivity may have measurable levels of IgE antibodies. False-positive results may occur in those with markedly elevated serum IgE due to nonspecific binding.
